If you are looking for a machine to host VM's though, you may want to investigate using sas drives. I hear LSI is doing well with their megaraid line though? Haven't used a megaraid in 5 or 6 years I think. Last edited by Autolycus 02-05-2010 at 10:10 PM.ģware raid cards perform horribly. We have found these solutions to be very reliable and useful in monitoring and maintaining RAID arrays.

Virtually all hardware RAID solutions provide some sort of software providing varying degrees of sophistication to accomplish these objectives. Other hardware RAID manufacturers, such as Adaptec offer similar software, which allow you to maintain very sophisticated monitoring and management of your arrays. This type of software allows for very granular control of monitoring options. It gives you configuration and monitoring functionality, as well as the ability to to let the RAID card generate email warnings, when the RAID array exceeds specified parameters, or for example, a RAID backup battery, or a drive in the array begins to fail. For example, the 3ware line of RAID cards offer the 3DM2 software management tools, which give you complete control over arrays using their hardware RAID cards.

Most hardware RAID solutions come with software to provide monitoring and additional functionality. This is probably a very dumb question, but thanks in advance for your answers. No dumb questions, just sometime people give dumb answers. Does it works fine /stable, or i better get a raid card?

However, my doubt is how can i monitor the drive array to know about errors and other problems in advance.įor win there is an app, but how it works for linux? A lot of supermicro servers already have raid support in the board. I need to setup a new server, and was thinking about hardware raid.
